More Anechoic Chamber Manufacturers
Chambers called anechoic chambers have been invented to absorb these waves completely. What these anechoic chambers do is exceptionally beneficial for preventing the interference of foreign electromagnetic or sound waves and for the absorption of these waves. Due to this, anechoic rooms or chambers are the quietest artificial places on the planet.
What are Anechoic Chambers?
Anechoic chambers are special chambers that entirely absorb sound and electromagnetic waves, making them uncharacteristically quiet. In other words, it's an echoless space created to avoid the reflection of electromagnetic radiation and sound, causing these rooms to be soundproofed from external noise.
These rooms are so quiet that if a person is in the room, they will be able to listen to their heartbeat, stomach gurgling, and breathing. In fact, Microsoft's anechoic chamber set a new world record in 2015 with a background noise level of -20.3 dB (decibels), which Guinness World Records officially recognized. The lowest decibel level achieved on our planet is roughly -23 dB, which is the noise generated when air molecules collide.
How are Anechoic Chambers Designed?
The fundamental idea behind keeping a space quiet is to prevent all sound waves from rebounding and ensure that the room itself absorbs all sounds.
- Soundproofing is accomplished by covering the ceiling, floor, and walls of anechoic rooms with fiberglass wedges.
- The fiberglass results in an uneven surface with a network of wedges that project in various directions.
- Wave energy is effectively dispersed when sound waves hit the fiberglass and are transferred to a wedge's body.
- Any remaining sound (wave) bounces off the wedge at an angle before landing on another wedge that repeats the process.
- This eliminates all of a sound wave's energy, preventing echoes and making the room extremely quiet.
Benefits of Anechoic Chambers
Following are some of the benefits of anechoic chambers:
- These rooms are completely unaffected by any intrusive electromagnetic waves.
- They provide a very stable testing environment when the sound of any sensitive object is being measured.
- Unnecessary sound, radio, or electromagnetic waves cannot penetrate from outside to disturb internal operations.
- Immunity tests can be easily performed.
Semi-Anechoic Chambers and Hemi-Anechoic Chambers
There are two special types of anechoic chambers based on their design. There is some difference of opinions on how these two types distinguish themselves from each other, but from a wider or general perspective, they are categorized as two different types.
- Semi-anechoic chambers: are enclosures protected from external interference and internally engineered to reduce RF transmission reflections. Semi-anechoic chambers typically provide two-dimensional measurements taken from the sidewalls of the apparatus. They have an ideally reflective floor to create a free field.
- Hemi-anechoic chambers: When testing larger, heavier items where an anechoic facility would be impossible, or when the normal mode of operation is over a reflective plane such as a floor or hard road surface, hemi-anechoic (hard or non-acoustically absorbent flooring) is typically employed. Testing microphones, hearing aids, and hi-fi gear are a few examples of typical uses.
